The IEEE CSU Fresno chapter's website goes through some remodeling.
The old http://ieee.csufresno.edu site is being remodeled both in the front-end and the back-end. Many of you, especially IEEE CSU Fresno chapter regulars, have noticed that the old web server in the IEEE club room has disappeared. In it's place is a monster of a tower dubbed "The Cadillac of Servers" by some of you. Not only is this behemoth bigger, it is faster and usable. The old static web site was moved to the new server and has been hosting the old out-dated pages since the begining of February. The new server was also setup to host branch sites like http://ewb.engr.csufresno.edu and http://bulldogbot.com, we may even consider setting up a separate site for SWE/WIE. Now that the server has been running for a while and most of the kinks have been worked out, we will be transitioning to a new format using the Content Management System called Joomla! This CMS will allow us to update the site more readily than before since Joomla uses a web based GUI to enter in new items. No longer will we have to search through miles of HTML coding and CSS style sheets for figure out where to add a two line announcement about an upcoming event. Joomla! takes care of all that backend mess. The setup of the Joomla! back-end was done by Tim who had setup the old web server. With his experience he was able to get both the IEEE Joomla site and the EWB Joomla site up and running. The task was not a simple one as there were many technicalities to work out of the server in order to even install Joomla! |
